Controversy

Sharon Osbourne Pledges to Attend Tommy Robinson’s Anti-Immigration Rally

Sharon Osbourne has announced she intends to attend the “Unite the Kingdom” demonstration organised by Tommy Robinson in London on 16 May. The 73-year-old widow and former manager of Ozzy Osbourne commented on a promo video by the far-right activist on Instagram, writing: “See you at the march.”

Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, uses the video to call for a second “Unite the Kingdom” march at Trafalgar Square. “We have had enough of migration, enough of mass immigration, we’ve had enough of oppression from a tyrannical government,” he says. In September 2025, Robinson staged the largest far-right rally in British history at the same location. Police estimated attendance at over 100,000. There were 24 arrests and 37 officers injured. Elon Musk addressed the crowd via video link.

“War Pigs” as a Footnote

The backlash to Osbourne’s announcement has been fierce. On social media, fans are pointing to her late husband, who died in July 2025. “Ozzy would never allow that if he was still alive,” one user wrote on X. Another: “Waits until Ozzy passes then shows her true colours.” The accusation running through the comments: Sharon Osbourne would never have positioned herself this openly while the Black Sabbath singer was alive.

The contradiction runs deep into the music. Black Sabbath wrote “War Pigs,” one of the most iconic anti-war songs in rock history. When Osbourne attacked Irish rap group Kneecap over their pro-Palestinian statements at Coachella in April 2025 and called for their US visas to be revoked, Kneecap member Mo Chara fired back: “She should listen to ‘War Pigs’ that was written by Black Sabbath.”

Osbourne’s Political Trajectory

Sharon’s announcement doesn’t come out of nowhere. She publicly backed Brexit in 2016 but was still living in the US at the time. She only returned to the UK in recent years. In early 2026, she told reporters at the Grammy Awards that she was “seriously thinking” about running for mayor of Birmingham – her late husband’s hometown. Before that, she had announced on Instagram that she wanted to stand for Birmingham city council after it emerged that Shahid Butt, convicted in Yemen on terrorism charges in 1999, was running as an independent candidate.

Robinson and the Counter-Movement

Tommy Robinson founded the English Defence League in 2009 and is considered one of Britain’s most prominent far-right activists. He was a member of the fascist British National Party and has multiple criminal convictions.

Broad resistance is building against Robinson’s movement. In late March 2026, the Together Alliance staged a national counter-demonstration in London. Organisers claimed around 500,000 attendees; police estimates were significantly lower. Supporters included Fontaines D.C., Billy Bragg, Jessie Ware and Paloma Faith. James frontman Tim Booth also spoke out after Robinson used the band’s song “Sit Down” without permission at his September rally. Booth called it “disgusting” and described the song as “the antithesis of this organisation.”

The second “Unite the Kingdom” rally is scheduled for 16 May 2026 at Trafalgar Square. Whether Osbourne will actually show up remains unclear. Neither she nor her immediate family have issued an official statement.

Update, 18 April 2026: British homelessness charity Centrepoint has ended its association with Sharon Osbourne. The organisation, which supports young people aged 16 to 25, told the Guardian: “This sort of event does not align with our values. Centrepoint has a proud history of supporting young people whatever their background, ethnicity or religion.” It added that it has no plans to work with Osbourne in the future.

Osbourne had previously served as an ambassador for the charity’s Omaze fundraising campaign. Centrepoint clarified, however, that she held no official or ongoing ambassador role. No response from Osbourne or her representatives has been issued.
