Commentary
The real news here is not the tour itself. Korn play arenas. That surprises nobody. The news is the package.
Architects as support for Korn is an unusual combination on paper. The Brighton band has evolved from a technical metalcore act into one of Britain’s biggest metal bands over the past few years, selling out headline shows in the same venues they will be playing as guests here. The fact that they are lining up as special guest under Korn demonstrates two things: respect for a band that paved the way for much of what happened in alternative and nu metal from the mid-90s onward. And the calculation that a Korn audience offers a chance to win new fans who might never have seen them otherwise.
With Youth Code and Pixel Grip as openers, the tour also brings in two acts from the industrial and electro corner. The result is a lineup that crosses three generations and three scenes: 90s nu metal, 2020s metalcore, electronic hardcore. That is considerably more thought-through than the usual “headliner plus two bands who happen to have an album out.”
Korn themselves appear to be working on new material. Band members were recently spotted in the studio with mixing engineer Chris Lord-Alge and producer Nick Raskulinecz. A new album is expected in 2026, which would make the autumn tour a release cycle run. Their last studio album, “Requiem,” was released in February 2022.
A note on the lineup: bassist Fieldy has not performed live with the band since mid-2021 and continues to be replaced by Roberto “Ra” Diaz (Suicidal Tendencies). Whether that changes by autumn remains to be seen.
